Calanova Golf course
Get Acquainted with the Calanova Golf Course and Enjoy your Play at it.
This course is the latest to open on the coast. This is another addition to the Mijas golf valley which can now boast some excellent and very popular courses. The two open parkland courses at Mijas, Lagos and Olivos, The Santana course, La Cala Golf resort now has 3 x 18 holes now called Asia ( South course) , America ( North course) and the new Europa. La Noria 9 holes at la Cala village and the re opened Chaparral are both close by adds up to 8 x 18 holes and one full 9 hole all within 10 minutes from Fuengirola.
The Cala Nova course is in the next valley over from La Cala it is built on similar terrain therefore is quite hilly like the well known La Cala courses though the ruff is a little more forgiving.
Hole 1 - par 5 - hcp 7 - 487m yellow tees.
An easy start from an elevated tee. Water to you right but mot really in play. You do need to get around the dog leg. The second shot is important as you need to be in a good position for you third shot good approach to the green is very important.
Hole 2 - par 4 - hcp 13 - 350m yellow tees.
Club selection is important off the tee to get around the dog leg. Second shot is up hill but not much danger
Hole 3 - par 4 - hcp 15 - 327m yellow tees.
All down hill, so much shorter than the score card shows. Again club selection is important not to over hit your tee shot as You have a ravine (you can’t see it from the tee) full of rough about 90m from the green. (Have a quick look across when on the 2nd tee)
Hole 4 - par 4 - hcp 9 - 311m yellow tees.
A tricky little hole correct distance off the tee is all important as this 90 degree dog leg right leaves an elevated 2nd shot down on to a small green. If you hit the green with your second you will enjoy this whole. If you miss the green and find a bunker you will be calling it a Mickey Mouse hole.
Hole 5 - par 4 - hcp 1 - 368m yellow tees.
This dog leg left requires a good straight tee shot and a second low iron or wood to the uphill green if you are looking for a par
Hole 6 - par 3 - hcp 3 - 163m yellow tees.
First of the par 3s and the longest but from the very elevated tee position it does play shorter. Great hole for nearest the pin with water in front and to the right.
Hole 7 - par 4 - hcp 11 - 339m yellow tees.
Straight forward flat hole but out of bounds on the left but plenty of room on the right side of the fairway. The tiered green can be tricky.
Hole 8 - par 3 - hcp 17 - 146m yellow tees.
Raised tee looking down on to the green. No danger if you are short but not much room left, right or back of the green.
Hole 10 – par 5 - hcp 4 - 455m yellow tees.
Due to the elevated tee and the down hill terrain again this par 5 plays shorter than shown on the score card. With a good positional tee shot this par 5 is reachable for most players but to score well you need to be close with your second as the third shot does not give you much room for error. Well protected green. Probably the better option for the longest drive.
Hole 11 – par 4 - hcp 10 - 349m yellow tees
Out of bounds down the left side of the fairway. Straight and narrow fairway with an elevated green.
Hole 12 – par 4 - hcp 18 - 251m yellow tees
Short uphill as shown it is hcp 18. Bunkers in front of the green
Hole 13 - par3 - hcp 14 - 150m yellow tees
Straight forward par 3 with a large green.
Hole 14 – par 5 - hcp 2 - 528m yellow tees
You have probably enjoyed the last couple of holes as you just think golf is getting easy a monster par 5. Good tee shot required to get around the dog leg. Then two long shots up hill on to a small narrow green. Just hope the winds not against you.
Hole 15 – par 4 - hcp 6 - 291m yellow tees
Short hole but very challenging. Tricky tee shot over a short ravine on to a narrow fairway. Your second shot in is to a small green that gives very little room for error to the right or behind.
Hole 16 – par 4 - hcp 12 - 374m yellow tees
This is a narrow par 4 all down hill, some well placed bunkers. Again the approach to the green has very little room for error especially if you are long.
Hole 17 – par 3 - hcp 16 - 146m yellow tees
Straight forward par 3 on to a tiered green. Well protected from banks behind so you can afford to be a little long. You do not want to be short.
Hole 18 – par 4 - hcp 8 - 304m yellow tees.
Great finishing hole. Tee shot is from an elevated tee which gives you a great chance to get some distance from your first shot. Allowing you just a short iron in to the green. Only when you arrive to where your ball should be are you aware of the water hazard on the right where the natural terrain runs in to. I won’t be so relaxed when I play this hole again and will probably take an iron off the tee, and go for a long shot in to the green.
