FEATURED GOLF COURSE - Torrequebrada- MALAGA GOLF

Golf Malaga Review:

* Torrequebrada is reputed to have been one of the favourite courses of Bing Crosby, and we admit he must have had quite good taste. Situated just out of Benamadena it is well located if you staying in the Fuengirola to Torremolinos area and looking to add a top quality course in to your itinerary without travelling to far.

* Although not overly long the course is a tough test of golf at all levels – it has previously hosted the Spanish Open.

* A large amount of real estate development has spoilt its views over the past few years but this is made up for by the variety of trees and shrubs on the course. The greens and generally quality of the course has shown a big improvement with the new management over the last couple of years. The management has also changed its direction and is now very customer friendly.

* Very few of the holes let you just drive without thinking – although the fairways are quite forgiving, the course is complicated by a number of dog legs, elevated tees, ravines and water hazards. Most of the holes are quite fair except for maybe the 2nd that has a big tree in front of the elevated green penalising any good tee shot.

* Our favourite holes are the long par 5 12th from the back tees and if we’re driving well the elevated par 4 5th with a good drive you can cut the corner – though nearly every hole has something. .Another challenging hole is the par 4 15th with an iron off the tee for position then 150m ( 165 yards) all carry to the green.

* For nearest to the pin try the very short 3rd hole to give everybody a chance – don’t be put off that Seve Ballasteros scored a 7 here. For the longest drive the long par 5 12th.

* The changing rooms are excellent and the club has a nice bar terrace over looking the 18th green. There is also a bar on the 11th tee and a drinks buggy.

* Definitely one of our favourites at the end of the round if you have a good score card you will come back.

Paul Megran Golf Malaga's Pro's View

Torrequebrada golf was one of the first designs by celebrated Spanish architect Jose Gancedo in the mid 70s. Gancedo is renowned for his entertaining and adventurous designs with Golf del sur, Lerma and Monte Mayor all part of his design portfolio.
Torrequebrada sits highly in my rankings of must play courses here on the costa del sol. Its not a long course at around 5852m but length is no indication of difficulty here. The course snakes around hilly landscape, testing the golfer with an array of sparkling water hazards, doglegged fairways and cunningly placed greenside bunkers. Tree lined fairways rise and fall over challenging terrain, twisting one way then another, rising here and dropping there, with each hole providing its own unique challenge.

Featured Holes

Hole 3 Par 3 (90m)
A tricky 90m shot to a small difficult green will have you thinking. If you make the green expect a testing putt and if you miss the green a difficult up and down for your par. The great Seve Ballesteros once carded a 7 in the Spanish open here.

Hole 7 Par 4 (313m)
A breathtaking view from this elevated tee. Longer hitters will need to select the right iron to layup in front of the water. Don’t be too short or you face a difficult shot over the water guarding the green.

Hole 11 Par 3 (164m)
A Stunning par 3 that requires a solid tee shot over water to a heavily bunkered 3 level green. The tree in front of the green foreshortens the hole, so take a club more to be sure.

Hole 14 par 5 (462m)
A difficult tee shot that requires length to climb a steep rising fairway. If you don’t make the top you face a blind 2nd shot over 220m to a small elevated green with bunkers left and right. Play this as a 3 shotter.

Your Reviews:

* Torrequebrada is far superior course compared to the other golf courses in this area. The course provides a challenging round of golf for golfers of any level. Having played on many of the costa del sol golf courses, I think the only course that matches Torrequebrada is El Chapparal. Fair value for money. I will definitely come back here for my next golf holiday.

* Torrequebrada ranks high among the excellent golf courses in Malaga and Costa del sol. This course is a must for golfers of every level. it is perfectly designed and very well maintained conditions. Torrequebrada golf course on the costa del sol is a lot better than the La Cala courses. Torrequebrada offers a great welcome to golfers and provides unforgettable golf.

* Though Torrequebrada is located on the costa del sol, it is relatively less famous amongst golfers coming here for their golf holidays. It is without doubt one of the best courses on the Costa del sol. The layout of the course provides wonderfully varied and challenging golf. This course is not flat unlike some of the better known golf courses in Malaga and the coast. The course offers excellent hilly terrain coupled with several water hazards and smartly placed bunkers. The course has some really memorable holes making for some tricky and challenging golf. The elevated tees of some of the holes like the 5th and 7th offer stunning views of the landscape, the 16th requires you to clear a water hazard towards an elevated green accross. Torrequebrada deserves to be on the top of any golfers golf course list while planning a golf holiday to the costa del sol.

* You simply cannot leave out Torrequebrada while you are on a golf holiday in Malaga and the costa del sol. It is an excellent course with variety and plenty of challenges making it a delight to play. The layout of the course is superb and tests the skills of golfers of every handicap. We got a great welcome and the staff here is very friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend this course.
