Marbella Monuments

Marbella is home to a surprising number of historical landmarks and monuments, with many significant buildings in and around central Marbella.

Castle Walls (Murallas del Castillo)

Castle walls in Marbella are nothing but the one time formed part of the defense system in the city of Marbella.

These ruins are found in the historic centre of the town, near Orange Square and are the only ones from the Muslim era which have been preserved.

The Town Hall has recently recovered the back plates from the north and south of the citadel by eliminating some of the old buildings that were built against the walls of the castle.

The ruins of The Vaults (Las Bovedas) which are of third century, were discovered in 1926 near San Pedro de Alcantara.

It is built with solid mortar and has withstood the passing of time and the storms, as it is built next to the beach. The upper floor consists of one circular gallery with access to small rooms.

The Las Bovedas are the remains of Roman baths which were once an important part of local life in Marbella, used for bathing and socialising many years ago.

Guided tours at 12:00 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

Basilica Vega del Mar

Basilica Vega del Mar was once a beautiful building, dating back to the 4th century.

All that remains now are historic ruins, although much of the structure and layout is still visible, offering an insight into the past.

Many notable artefacts and archaeological treasures were found here during excavations are are now displayed at Marbella's National Archaeological Museum.
