Flamenco-Festival

The El Piyayo flamenco club in Rincon de la Victoria is organising a flamenco festival this autumn season. The 9th edition of the local flamenco festival, will kick off on the 13th of October and will continue on into December- concluding on the 8th. There will be shows every Saturday evening till December.

Famous artists such as Montse Cortes, El Guadiana, Sergio Aranda, La Repompa, and Carmelilla, El Carrete and their dance companies, will be taking part in the festival.

Other artists who will be performing in Rincon de la Victoria in October are Delia and Jose Parra (singers), Luis Santiago (guitarist), and Las Malaguenas and El Carrete's dance companies. The Nerja Fair:

The Nerja feria is celebrated in October, when the streets and squares of the town come alive with colour and music. Casetas (tents) are set up, decorated with crepe-paper and fairy lights, and filled with revellers from dusk till dawn. On the streets a variety of parades (inlcuding the crowning of the feria queen) and street theatre performances take place, though the action centres around the casetas that blast out flamenco music

You will get to see women in traditional Spanish dresses dancing to the click of castanets, while gentlemen in grey suits with carnations in their buttonholes nurse large glasses of manzanilla sherry (the traditional feria drink). If the noisy casetas all get a bit too much, there is always the open-air fairground to enjoy.

Alfajar: pottery, crafts and design in Malaga

The word ‘alfajar’, ‘alfahar’, or ‘al-fajjar’ was used by Arab people to name both dinnerware and pottery. Now it is the name of a shop on Cister Street, near the Alcazaba fortress, in Malaga.
The business opened years ago to offer to the public the artistic items designed and manufactured by Lola Diez Rodriguez and Jose Angel Ruiz Gonzalez from their studio and also pieces made by other Andalucian craftsmen.
In this shop, you'll find virtually everything you can imagine to decorate your home: lamps, small sculptures, vases, jars, plates, platters, mugs, chocolate boxes, candle and pen holders, ashtrays and even murals. All these collectibles are handmade by using ceramic materials and mixing metal oxides and glazes. In sum, they are one-of-a-kind pieces you can buy to decorate your place or to make lovely gifts to your friends or relatives.
