Malaga City Overview
Pasaje de Chinitas |
Take a stroll through Malaga's picturesque historical centre and soak up the distinct atmosphere of the city.
The town centre is a maze of narrow, quaint lanes which meet to create some very pretty squares.
One of the most picturesque spots is the Pasaje de Chinitas with is traditional Andalucian balconies and blooming flowers.
If you have come to Malaga looking for a typically Mediterranean culture, this is what you are looking for. |
The main street here is the stunning tree lined avenue, the Alameda, and starts at the Plaza Marina, near the port Calle Marques de Larios. Almost all the streets in the Malaga town centre are marked pedestrian only to make it more tourist friendly and safe. Thus you have a bustling, exclusive centre with many boutiques, designer shops and chic cafes; all surrounded by ancient, restored buildings.
At the top of Larios is the main square, Plaza de la Constitucion, which is centre of attention throughout the year when cultural, traditional and religious events are being celebrated. It becomes the centre of attraction in December when a huge, beautifully decorated Christmas tree stands here as a part of the Christmas celebrations in Malaga.

This is the best area in town for souvenir shopping and eating out. Some of the city's best tapas bars can be found here, such as Rincon de Mata, tucked away in a corner in Calle Esparteros. Another local favourite is Rincon Chinitas, which was once a flamenco cabaret and still preserves its artistic flavour.
